Chicken Golf Ball Hack!
Are you having trouble with your chickens laying everywhere BUT the nesting boxes? Or maybe you have a snake problem and when you go to collect your eggs there is a pleasant surprise in the coop?! Well here is a tip on how to get your Chickens to lay where you want them to and it may also help with the snake problem!
Step 1. Buy some golf balls or find some around your house (preferably 2 per nesting box)
Step 2. Make sure that all of your nesting boxes have a lot of bedding (I like to use pine shavings)
Step 3. Place the golf balls in the nesting boxes and sit back and relax!:)
How does this help?
The golf balls mimic a chicken egg. You may have noticed once one of your chickens lays its egg, the rest like to lay in the same spot. The golf balls will help guide your chickens to where you would like them to lay! Now for the Snake part: Write down how many golf balls you place in the nesting boxes that way you won't forget! The next time you collect your chicken eggs and notice that one golf ball is missing there is a 99.9% chance that you have a snake. Now if the Snake ate the golf ball the snake is more than likely not to be a problem as it cannot digest a golf ball. Therefore, you have solved the snake problem and chickens not laying in the right spot. It's a two-in-one solution! I hope this helps you and if so let me know how it goes!
